This was probably the worse stop for us. Vega is in the middle of nowhere. The campground looks and felt like something you’d see from Breaking Bad. Lots of permanent people living here in fairly rundown RVs. No one in office but even after paying, a man came by carrying a gun asking if we had registered (hey, we are in Texas).

There was a Mexican restaurant across the street that had good Yelp reviews. One of the rare times Yelp has led me astray. But it was close and none of us got sick.

Regarding the campground, the big issue for me was the price. Initially the nightly fee was quoted as $30. That seemed reasonable for a one night stop. However, when you are filling out registration form there was an extra $5 fee for having two people, another $5 for being over 30 ft, another $5 for using 50 amp circuit, and another $5 for our cat (INDOOR CAT!). But I did get $5 off for being a veteran.

In reality, we were safe and had a good night’s sleep. Next stop–New Mexico.
