This was another short drive (which I am liking). However the Thunderstorm decided to follow us – I don’t think I have ever driven in such a storm. The Lightening was immediately followed by tremendous thunder, buckets of rain, cars pulling to the side of the road. Would have been amazing if we weren’t driving. But we made it to a really great KOA just outside of Paducah, Ky. Of course once we got off the road, it stopped pouring, so we were able to get set up fairly easy. Had views of two lakes (ponds).

We really liked the Paducah area. We were about 30 minutes from the river walk area – they are revitalizing the River area and building in that area. Some very cool restaurants, bars, theaters now. We went to a movie in a Theater that was refurbished in an alley – quaint. The river-walk has a huge sea wall from when the river flooded the town in 1937. They have painted murals on each panel (probably at least 25 total) of the history of the area. Very nice walk, but the sea wall does block the view of the water.

The area close to us has two huge lakes (Kentucky and Barkley), with a land mass between them know as “Land Between the Lakes”. This is an area we could definitely come back to. Thick green forest, beautiful lakes, tons of huge boats (for rent too). And surprise – my brother Rick and his wife Jill were camping here. He too is on his way to our niece’s wedding in Asheville. They are on their way to Virginia to see some friends before the wedding, but what a fluke we were 10 minutes from each other. It was great to see him, then will be able to see him again next week.

The campground was one of our favorites so far. Or course the longer we do this the more we forget what each spot looked like. I think this blog is more for our memory that anything else.
Marsha went to the National Quilt Museum in Paducah. She was blown away at the intricate detail in these quilts.

It’s hard to imagine the work that goes into these quilts. This was definitely a highlight in this area for Marsha. There is a show here next week and I am sure it will be amazing.

Had a very good visit to this area. A definite return area, But time flies and it’s time to head out again.
