We left Tennessee today and entered Arkansas. We actually ended up spending more time in Tennessee than anywhere else so far. Unfortunately the heat and humidity followed us to Arkansas. While we expected the South to be hot and humid, we learned through the local news that the current heat and humidity has been setting records for this time of year.
Our next stay is at Maumelle State Park on the Arkansas River just outside Little Rock. Again a very nice campground with electric and water and our sites were right on the river. Still buggy so didn’t want to sit outside in the evenings but still enjoyed ourselves. We elected to spend one more night here and shorten the drive across Oklahoma and Texas by a night.

While visiting Little Rock we finally made it to a Waffle House – or I should say I finally pressured everyone into trying it. Marsha and I had been in one before and walked out due to sticky table and sticky menus. Eww! Any thought given to washing off things??? Well, no. BUT Waffle House is everywhere in the South, so I wanted to try again. It was actually OK – good waffle and nice staff.

As usual we drove around exploring the area. Little Rock is the Capital so we went downtown and checked out the area. There were the typical government buildings. The Clinton Library is here but we choose not to go at this time. Lots of traffic here but at least the roads have four lanes. Lots of green areas and lots of water. A very beautiful state.

After 4 relaxing days, we continued west heading towards New Mexico and the Balloon Festival.
