We spent 5 nights at the St. George / Hurricane KOA. A pretty typical KOA (gravel sites, some grass/weeds between coaches, close together, but with amenities for families and nice staff). It was a good location to explore the area.
We hiked to Gunlock Reservoir to some cool waterfalls. It was about a mile each way, mostly up hill getting there and I thought I did pretty good. Then I see a mom carrying her baby in her arms zip past me! I need to get in better shape!!

Drove back through Snow Canyon (and didn’t take pictures?!?!?). Very nice canyon with the typical red rock cliffs, primitive campground (and full) and lots of good hiking (so I’m told).
One of our favorite areas was Sand Hollow Lake. We would definitely like to come back and camp here. Lake is in the middle of nowhere yet surrounded by snow capped peaks. Lots of boating activity, unusual shoreline, FHU sites. Seemed very quiet.

One of our favorite drives was to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Although we have been to the south rim a few times, neither of us have been to the north rim. A pretty healthy drive from here, but we had a great time. As we watched the temperatures drop to 34 degrees, we did run into some rain, hail and snow. But we continued into the National Park and ate lunch at the Lodge (not as grand as the Ahwahnee in Yosemite), it was still nice. Cold and rainy, but very beautiful. We were entertained by lightening all around us.

And of course we had to venture into Zion National Park (several times). It is an amazing place – the color and contours of the rocks, the water flowing through the river (normal flow is 50 cf/m, now at 450 cf/m). It is just spectacular. We had wanted to camp inside the Park, but no such luck – but we will try again with enough time to secure a site. A lot of the hikes were closed due to rock slides, but for this out of shape guy that was probably for the best (we are talking UP hill).
