From Bryce it was only a few hours drive to Capitol Reef. Our RV GPS took us a bit longer way but we avoided some steep hills and had less winding roads. Capitol Reef area was very cool – I think Zion and Capitol Reef seem more amazing because you are always looking up at the spectacular formations. With Bryce you are looking down into a canyon so you only see it at lookouts along the road. But we have loved Utah and really enjoyed our time here,

We loved our campground at Capitol Reef. Of course as with most of our spots we booked late, so were lucky to get anything. However in this case – SCORE! We got a site (electric & water only) off by itself, but we were right on a huge pasture land with cows, horse, ducks, geese, pond and tons of birds. We loved hearing the mooing of the cows, watching all the animals respond to the farmer, and the quietness. Our four days here were great.

We drove into Capitol Reef every day after the weekend (too crowded on the weekend). Great formations, but also wonderful history here about the Mormon settlements. The orchards they planted are still producing fruit, and they allow all guests to pick and eat what they want for free. We were too early probably by a month for the apricots.

We hiked another slot canyon – actually a river bottom that went back for miles between canyon walls. Another gorgeous day. Lots of people on this hike, but never seemed crowded. Such a beautiful area.

Capitol Reef has so many roads to explore, we took off on some dead end ones that went back to fantastic canyons.
