As we went through the toll station, I asked how many tolls there were between here and there. When I told him where we were going, he said to make sure we went to the restaurant that served the Best Effing Ham sandwich. He (and I) thought it was funny.

Effingham is considered the cross roads of America – Interstate 70 and 57 cross here. The businessmen in the area wanted to use this to spread the Word, and built a 198 foot cross at the intersection. Quite the sight to behold. It is manned by volunteers that are just there if anyone has any questions.

The people in this area were the nicest people we have encountered so far. Everyone was so gracious, friendly and just downright helpful. We feel we have crossed over into the South, ya all, and we will be living with all that hospitality now. It certainly is different than other places. We are loving it

We drove over to another town, Casey. It is known for being the biggest little town – has the world’s biggest mailbox, pencil, wind chimes, teeter-totter, chair, and bird house. You could tell they were revitalizing the down town area and in just a little while it will be even better. Many of the towns we visited were in the process of being revitalized. Others town wanted to but didn’t seem to have the funds. Wonder what the politics behind that are.

Went to a farm to table restaurant called Firefly. Our dinner was delicious! The ambiance as very nice and we had excellent service. It’s been a while since we have had this good a meal. The little mom and pop places we have been trying have been enjoyable, but not of this caliber. But then again, it was a bit more expensive too.

We had some weather here too. Real Midwest Thunder, Lightening and Flash Flood Warnings! It was nice to be safe inside the motor home and to be able to see and hear the weather outside… great light show out our windows. Glad we weren’t driving in it.

In Effingham there is a Corvette and VW Museum. Bill and Debbie own a Corvette, so this was a must stop. The big Museum is in Bowling Green, Ky, and we found out a group of 800 vets are leaving LA, stopping in Effingham, then on to Bowling Green, Ky. Seeing the 800 vets on the road would be pretty amazing, but we are a week ahead of them.

Our last night here was another Midwest Thunderstorm. But the morning we had to leave the rain stopped to allow us to get closed up and ready to go again. Next stop, Kentucky.
