Coming to Bismarck was all about seeing our grandson, Devon. He graduated from University of Mary college last April. We had originally planned our RV trip to be here for his graduation, but unfortunately due to our unexpected medical issues we were unable to attend his graduation ceremonies. So we were very excited to see him at this time. Our travel buddies, Bill and Debbie, stayed in Custer while we came up to Bismarck for a few days. What a great time being able to see him in his world.

We spent one afternoon taking the Lewis & Clark Riverboat tour on the Missouri River. I had hoped for more history from the boat crew, but it was just a trip up and back. But being on the water and hanging out with Devon was great. We went to one of his favorite places (McKenzie River) for dinner after our boat ride.

Ken cooked a great meal of steak, twice baked potatoes, Texas toast and salad for Devon and his girlfriend Alanna. It was great to spend time with both of them. Devon and Alanna had recently returned from a camping trip to Glacier National Park. They were there about a week before our visit so we were able to share stories. Devon told us that at some point he would like to get a trailer for future camping adventures.

We had a great time seeing Devon. We are so proud of him. He’s going back to Calif for his Mom’s 50th birthday (how can we have a daughter who is 50!). He wanted to do something special with his sister Hannah while there – so he came up with sky diving! Hannah hates to fly but is considering it.
We found a awesome bike trail that went along the Missouri River. Rode for over an hour each way with a stop at a marina for some refreshments. Perfect trail – had a great ride.

We got to watch Devon play a softball game. He is in a league and really enjoys it. Go to see him hit a home run and a stand up double. Their team won by a huge margin.

This trip was so much more than we expected. The only times we have been here before have been late fall and it’s always been grey, cold and wet. This was perfect – sunny days, warm but not hot, nice breezes. We had thought that Bismarck didn’t have that many good places to eat, but Devon took us to some awesome places – we ended the visit at the The Starving Rooster. The four days flew by and all of a sudden, it was time to move on.
